Mama’s Beef Stew is a classic comfort food that every family has their own recipe for. It’s a warm and hearty dish that can be enjoyed on chilly nights or just as a comforting meal after a long day at work. This recipe has been passed down in my family for generations and is a staple dish in our household.
Ingredients:
This recipe calls for:
- 1-2 lbs beef stew meat
- 6 potatoes, diced
- 4 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 can of tomato paste
- 4 cups of beef broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
To start, brown the stew meat in a large pot over medium-high heat. Once browned, remove the meat from the pot and set aside. Reduce the heat to medium and add the onions and garlic to the pot, stirring occasionally, until translucent. Add the tomato paste and stir until well combined. Then, return the browned stew meat to the pot and add the beef broth, diced potatoes, and chopped carrots.
Cooking:
Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Let the stew simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and the meat is cooked through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
This beef stew is best served hot with a side of crusty bread or fluffy rice. It’s a perfect meal for the fall and winter months, and can easily be doubled or halved to serve a smaller or larger crowd.
